Mold & mildew
Car Mold & Mildew Cleaning in Charlotte
Mold in a car is a water problem wearing a cleaning problem's clothes. We deal with both, in that order.
Why it happens here
Charlotte summers combine long humid stretches with heavy afternoon storms. Any path that lets water in — a blocked sunroof drain full of oak debris and pollen, a cracked windshield seal, a door membrane that has come loose, a window left down during a thunderstorm — leaves moisture in carpet padding that will not evaporate in 75% humidity.
Within a few days, growth starts on the carpet backing, under seats and inside the cargo well. Vehicles parked under trees in Dilworth, Myers Park and Plaza Midwood are the usual candidates, because clogged drains are the most common cause.
How we handle it
- 1Locate the water source: drains, seals, spare wheel well and the cabin filter housing
- 2Lift carpet and trim where access allows to expose the affected padding
- 3Remove growth mechanically rather than just spraying over it
- 4Apply an anti-microbial treatment appropriate to automotive materials
- 5Force dry the padding and substrate until moisture readings are normal
- 6Extract, deodorize and re-treat surfaces, then verify after the vehicle sits closed
Health and honesty
We are detailers, not remediation contractors. If growth has spread through the padding across the full floor pan or into the HVAC core, the right advice is carpet removal and mechanical service, and we will say that instead of taking the job.
Where we can treat it, we do so thoroughly and we tell you what maintenance keeps it from returning: clear the drains twice a year, and never leave a damp interior closed up overnight in summer.
Not sure which service the vehicle actually needs? Describe it and we'll tell you honestly. Call (980) 441-5881 or request a quote.
