Swirl marks

Swirl Mark Removal in Charlotte

Those spider-web circles that appear under sunlight and gas station lights are thousands of shallow scratches. They can be removed properly — and prevented from returning.

Where swirls come from

  • Brush-based automatic washes, which recirculate grit from the vehicle ahead of you
  • Wiping pollen or dust off a dry panel — extremely common here in April
  • Single-bucket washing, where grit returns to the paint on the next pass
  • Old, contaminated or laundered-with-fabric-softener microfiber towels
  • Rotary buffing done badly, which leaves a distinct hologram pattern rather than random swirls

Why dark paint shows them worst

Swirls are visible because their edges scatter light. On black, dark gray and navy paint the scattered light contrasts strongly against the dark background, so a defect level that is invisible on silver looks severe on black.

Nothing is wrong with your black paint — it is simply an honest surface. It rewards proper washing and punishes shortcuts.

Removal and prevention

Removal is a polishing process. For most swirled daily drivers, a one-step polish removes the large majority and restores clear reflections; heavier cases need a two-step approach.

Prevention matters more than the correction itself. After polishing we recommend a sealant or coating, a strict no-brush-tunnel rule, and either regular mobile hand washing or a proper two-bucket routine at home.
