Stain removal
Car Stain Removal in Charlotte
Different stains need opposite chemistry. Using the wrong one sets the stain permanently, which is why most DIY attempts leave a lighter ring instead of a clean panel.
Stain types and what actually removes them
The most common mistake is scrubbing hot water into a protein stain. That cooks it into the fiber. The second most common is over-wetting a small spot, which pushes the stain outward and creates the classic halo.
| Stain | Type | Approach |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee, tea, soda | Tannin | Warm extraction with tannin-specific cleaner; heat helps |
| Milk, blood, vomit | Protein | Enzyme, cool water only — heat sets it permanently |
| Grease, makeup, sunscreen | Oil | Solvent-based pre-treat, then extraction |
| Ink, dye transfer | Dye | Controlled solvent on an applicator, blotted, never scrubbed |
| Mud and clay | Particulate | Let dry, break up, vacuum, then extract |
Fabric versus leather
On fabric we can flush, because extraction pulls the solution back out. On leather we cannot — the treatment stays on the topcoat and must be lifted with a damp cloth quickly. Leather ink stains in particular have a short window; after a few weeks the dye migrates into the finish. See leather seat cleaning.
What you can do before we arrive
- 1Blot, never rub — rubbing spreads the stain and damages the fiber nap
- 2Use cool water on anything protein-based
- 3Skip household all-purpose cleaners; most are too alkaline for automotive fabric
- 4Do not use bleach-based wipes on any interior surface
- 5Tell us what caused it — the cause determines the chemistry
