Interior Detailing Checklist
Interior work has an order. Doing it out of sequence means cleaning the same surface twice or contaminating something you already finished.
The correct order of operations
- 1Remove all personal items and floor mats
- 2Blow out debris from seams, rails and vents with compressed air — top down
- 3Full dry vacuum including under seats and along seat rails
- 4Pre-treat stains individually before any general cleaning
- 5Clean hard surfaces: dash, console, door cards, trim, pedals
- 6Deep clean seats by material — leather or fabric
- 7Extract carpets and mats last, since they catch everything above them
- 8Clean glass last of all, inside, with two towels
- 9Force dry, then apply UV protection to plastics and leather
The places most services skip
- Under the seats and inside the seat rail channels
- Seat belt webbing pulled fully out and cleaned
- Door jambs and the sill under the weatherstrip
- Air vent louvers and the defroster slots
- The headliner around grab handles and above the driver's door
- Cup holder inserts, removed and washed separately
- The trunk or cargo well, including under the floor panel
- The cabin air filter housing
Products and surfaces
| Surface | Use | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Soft-touch dash plastics | Diluted interior cleaner, matte protectant | Alcohol wipes, glossy dressings |
| Piano black trim | Damp plush towel only | Any brush or abrasive |
| Screens | Dry microfiber then lightly damp | Spraying directly, ammonia glass cleaner |
| Coated leather | pH-balanced cleaner | Degreasers, saddle soap |
| Headliner | Low-moisture foam | Extraction, saturation |

Charlotte-specific interior notes
Two things drive interior condition here: UV through the windshield, which fades and cracks dash tops on cars parked outdoors, and humidity, which keeps carpet and foam damp enough to smell. A UV protectant on the dash and thorough drying after extraction address both.
